One laptop connecting to the internet disconnects all other computers on the network, how do we fix this?

I just got internet turned on at my new house, and we are reusing our old Linksys wireless router. Every time my brother’s laptop connects to the internet, all other users on the network become disconnected for approximately 2 minutes, rather it be a laptop on the wifi or an xbox connected via ethernet cable. He has a Sony Vaio laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

  • JUAN:

check your brother laptop for automatic DNS.

it may have a fixed DNS or Fixed IP that match with the other computers disconnecting them. Then the other computers request to Router a new IP and DNS to get connected again.

Check TCP/IP settings on each and you will find what is wrong set on your bro’s PC.

    Good luck
